RouteMigo

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how RouteMigo handles information when you use the RouteMigo mobile application and related services.

RouteMigo is designed so that you can use its core route-discovery features without creating an account.

1. Information We May Collect

Depending on how you use RouteMigo, we may process the following information.

  • determine your current starting point;
  • find routes near a selected location;
  • search for parks and dog routes;
  • generate or display routes; and
  • provide location-related features.

You can disable location permissions through your device settings.

Route and Search Information

When you use RouteMigo, the service may process information such as:

  • starting coordinates or selected locations;
  • requested route distance;
  • activity type, such as running, walking or cycling;
  • route type, such as loop or out-and-back;
  • route geometry and generated route information;
  • route-building selections;
  • park or dog-route searches;
  • selected places;
  • saved routes, where that feature is used; and
  • reports or feedback submitted by you.

Technical and Diagnostic Information

RouteMigo and its service providers may process technical information such as:

  • IP address;
  • device type and operating system;
  • app version;
  • timestamps;
  • diagnostic information; and
  • crash information.

2. How We Use Information

We may use information to:

  • provide route and location features;
  • generate and return routes;
  • provide map and geographic services;
  • operate and maintain our backend;
  • diagnose technical problems;
  • understand how the app is used;
  • improve reliability and performance;
  • investigate reported route problems;
  • prevent misuse; and
  • comply with legal obligations.

3. Backend and Database

RouteMigo uses a FastAPI backend and PostgreSQL database infrastructure.

Our current infrastructure may include Neon for PostgreSQL database hosting.

Information sent to our backend may be processed and stored as necessary to provide and maintain RouteMigo.

4. Google Maps Platform

RouteMigo uses Google Maps Platform services for map display and certain location-related services, including geocoding where applicable.

Depending on the Google Maps Platform services used, Google may process information associated with requests, which can include location information, IP address, device or SDK information, request metadata and diagnostic information.

Google handles information according to its own policies.

You can read Google's Privacy Policy.

5. Firebase Analytics

RouteMigo may use Firebase Analytics to understand general app usage and improve the service.

Analytics information may include events, app version, device information, session information, approximate geographic information and pseudonymous identifiers.

RouteMigo does not intentionally send precise location coordinates or the free-text contents of problem reports to Firebase Analytics as event parameters.

Before launch, confirm that this statement matches the actual Firebase configuration and analytics events used by the app.

6. Firebase Crashlytics

RouteMigo may use Firebase Crashlytics to identify and diagnose crashes and technical problems.

Crashlytics may process information such as crash stack traces, relevant app state, device information, operating system, app version and pseudonymous installation identifiers.

7. OpenStreetMap

RouteMigo uses OpenStreetMap data for geographic and route-generation purposes.

OpenStreetMap data is provided under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL).

See our Maps & Data page for details.

8. Saved Routes

Where the saved routes feature is used, RouteMigo stores route data associated with your user identifier, including route geometry, distance, activity type, route name and related statistics.

Saved routes are retained to allow you to access them in future sessions. You can delete saved routes through the app.

If you delete a saved route, it is removed from our systems. Residual copies may remain in backups for a limited period.

9. Completed Route History

Where the completed routes feature is used, RouteMigo stores a record of routes you have marked as completed, including route identifiers and completion timestamps.

This information is associated with your user identifier and constitutes activity history. You can delete individual completion records through the app.

Completed route history is retained to provide the feature and may be used to improve the service.

10. User Identifier

Features such as saved routes and completed route history require a user identifier to associate data with your app installation.

This identifier is an anonymous identifier generated by the app and is not linked to your name or email address unless you separately provide that information.

11. Problem Reports

When you submit a problem report through RouteMigo, the report content is sent to and stored by RouteMigo.

Reports may include location coordinates, route identifiers and any free-text description you provide. Reports may be reviewed by RouteMigo for the purpose of investigating and improving route data.

Do not include sensitive personal information in problem report descriptions.

12. Sharing Information

We may share or provide access to information with service providers that help us operate RouteMigo, including providers for:

  • application hosting and infrastructure;
  • database hosting;
  • Google Maps Platform services;
  • analytics and diagnostics;
  • crash reporting; and
  • technical operations.

We do not need an account or profile containing your name to provide the core RouteMigo experience.

13. Data Retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including providing the service, maintaining security, resolving issues, improving the service and meeting legal obligations.

Actual retention periods may differ depending on the type of information and the third-party service involved.

14. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect information against unauthorised access, misuse, loss or disclosure.

However, no internet service or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

15. Your Choices

You can:

  • control device location permissions;
  • choose whether to use features that require location access;
  • delete saved routes and completed route history through the app;
  • limit or disable certain analytics or diagnostic collection where supported by the app or your device; and
  • contact us about privacy questions or requests.

16. International Processing

Some RouteMigo service providers may process information outside Australia.

Where this occurs, information may be subject to the laws of the country where it is processed.

17. Children

RouteMigo is not intended to collect personal information from children unnecessarily.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to RouteMigo in circumstances where it should not have been collected, contact us.

18. Australian Privacy Rights

If Australian privacy law applies to our handling of your information, you may have rights to request access to or correction of personal information and to make a privacy complaint.

For information about Australian privacy rights, you can visit the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
