Maps & Data
Last updated: 13 September 2026
RouteMigo combines geographic data, custom route-generation logic and third-party map services to provide route discovery and exploration features.
1. OpenStreetMap
RouteMigo uses OpenStreetMap data in its geographic and route-generation systems.
OpenStreetMap data is provided by the OpenStreetMap contributors and is available under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL).

2. RouteMigo Routing
RouteMigo uses custom route-generation and route-selection logic based on geographic data.
Depending on the feature, route generation may consider:
- starting location;
- activity type;
- requested route length;
- route type;
- roads, paths and trails;
- geographic characteristics; and
- route-selection preferences.
The resulting route is generated by RouteMigo's routing system and may not exactly match real-world conditions.
3. Google Maps
RouteMigo uses Google Maps Platform to display maps and visualise route geometry.
Google map content remains subject to Google's applicable terms and policies.
Google's required map attribution must remain visible and must not be removed or obscured.
4. Google Location and Geocoding Services
RouteMigo may use Google location-related services, including geocoding, where required by the app.
The exact Google service used may change over time. Information sent to Google depends on the specific API or SDK feature being used.
5. OpenStreetMap and Google Maps Have Different Roles
RouteMigo uses these services for different purposes.
OpenStreetMap-derived data is used as a source of geographic data for RouteMigo's routing systems.
RouteMigo applies its own route-generation and route-selection logic.
Google Maps is used to display the map and, where applicable, provide certain location-related services.
RouteMigo does not treat Google map display content as a source for improving or augmenting its OpenStreetMap-based routing dataset.
6. Route Accuracy and Real-World Conditions
Map and route information can become outdated or inaccurate because of:
- road or trail changes;
- construction;
- temporary closures;
- flooding or other weather events;
- fires or emergency conditions;
- changed access rules;
- private property;
- new or removed paths; and
- incomplete or incorrect source data.
Always check local signs, access restrictions and current conditions before and during your activity.
7. Reporting Incorrect Information
If you find a route or geographic detail that appears incorrect, unsafe or outdated, you can report it through RouteMigo.
Reports may be reviewed and used to improve route generation and the service.
8. Third-Party Data and Services
RouteMigo may use other third-party services or datasets in the future.
Where required, applicable attribution and licence information will be provided.
9. Map Tile Service
RouteMigo serves its own map vector tiles to display path network layers on the map.
These tiles are generated from RouteMigo's routing database, which is derived from OpenStreetMap data under the ODbL.
Vector tiles are served directly by RouteMigo's backend and are distinct from Google Maps display layers.
10. Routing Infrastructure
Route geometry displayed in RouteMigo is computed by RouteMigo's own routing system using pgRouting on a PostGIS database derived from OpenStreetMap network data.
Route geometry is not derived from or based on Google Maps geometries.
11. Licence Information
OpenStreetMap data is licensed under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL).
